“The paintings reflect the layers and levels of a wandering and ponderous mind as well as physical places, landscapes, and areas. The landscapes are changing and buildings emerge. The essential part of this is the encounter between original settings, architectural landscape, nature, and added still life.”
Tine Jakobsen as portrayed by sculptor Hans Pauli Olsen
“Throughout, Tine Jakobsen attempts to strike a balance between the antitheses of our emotions and our awareness, between extroversion and introversion, between subjectivity and objectivity and between precision and suggestion. All of which indicate the artist’s deep-felt enthusiasm for Chinese and Japanese art, where observational and objective aspects are inseparable from the emotional and subjective, where body and soul are inextricably connected.”
“The distorted composition, the dynamic diagonals, the absence of one dominant perspective, the dominance of large sections where nothing happens without silence - among with the calligraphic depiction of trees, horizon and landscapes - are as such all reminiscent of Hokusai, Hiroshige and the great Chinese masters of ink painting.”
“Tine Jakobsen’s work - paintings and drawings - are about color and composition. Tine Jakobsen adds different elements to the surfaces - the canvas, the paper. Squares of color that she does not exaggerate, as long as she is able to economise with her artistic effects and different figurations and forms.”
“Faces, bodies, bodies that meet, words, hinted architectural structures, objects and stories from the world - also the fairytale. From these images within the image and the combination of element, connection between color and figuration, (new) stories emerge, which can seem mysterious, as long as the artist again is able to economise. But mostly it is atmosphere that Tine Jakobsen projects in her work. One should be careful not to reduce the paintings’ wide spectrum of codes and signals - and issues of music in paintings have been trivialised to death - but nevertheless some of Tine Jakobsen’s paintings make you think of the songs of Leonard Cohen. As he with simple means creates space and atmosphere - so does Tine Jakobsen - very much so.”
“Tine Jakobsen’s paintings and drawings are also distinctly poetic. One could also call them dreamy - and that she draws upon the tradition of Chagall. As in Chagall’s works the colors are important, and as in his paintings the figures and situations float easily within the frame. The imagery is sensuel, one can even characterise them as feminine as well as dangerous and sweet.”
